6.10: Molality

Molality

Molality is a measure of concentration and is the number of moles of solute in 1 kilogram of solvent.

  • Defined as moles/kg
  • Units are "m"
    • The unit must be lower case.
Steps for calculating molality:
  1. Convert the solutes mass into moles.
  2. Divide the number of moles of the solute by the number of kg of the solvent.
  3. ​Ensure proper units are used.
