The periodic table has three main sections. There are the metals, metalloids, and nonmetals. Each section is made up of different elements. Each element is used for a different purpose. For example, some elements can react to form compounds. Other elements are used in the construction of specific materials. For example, some frying pans are made of aluminum, iron or steel (an alloy of iron and carbon).
