Unit 5: How Do You Bake A Dessert?

Next Generation Science Standard(s) that will be covered:
  • HS-PS3-4: Plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence that the transfer of thermal energy when two components of different temperature are combined within a closed system results in a more uniform energy distribution among the components in the system (second law of thermodynamics).
  • HS-PS1-7: Use mathematical representations to support the claim that atoms, and therefore mass, are conserved during a chemical reaction.
Learning Targets that will be covered: 
  • I can define the following terms: Thermal Energy, Temperature, Heat Transfer, Convection, Conduction and Radiation.
  • I can explain the process of heat transfer.
  • I can conduct simple conversions and determine limiting and excess reagents.
  • I can differentiate between a physical change and a chemical reaction.
