Chemistry is the study of matter and interactions, and it is apart of our daily lives. For example, chemistry occurs in the following:
- Cooking/Baking
- Materials you use
- Plants outside
- Fire
- S'mores
- Gasoline
- Etc…
- Organic Chemistry: Organic means Carbon (C), so Organic Chemistry is the study of carbon.
- Inorganic Chemistry: The study of compounds that do not have carbon in them. There are some exceptions to this rule, such as carbon dioxide, but don't worry about these exceptions.
- In means no
- Organic means Carbon (C)
- Inorganic means No Carbon (C)
- Examples of inorganic compounds are the following:
- Metals
- Minerals
- Biochemistry: The Study of compounds within living things. For example, bio-fuels are fuels made from living matter, and biochemistry will study bio-fuels.
- Physical Chemistry: The physics of chemistry, and deals with the mechanism, energy transfer, and the rate that occurs when matter undergoes change. For example,
- How fast or slow reactions are
- Energy
- Motion
- Analytical Chemistry: The study of the physical and chemical properties of matter including its composition and structure. Examples of analytical chemistry are the following:
- Measuring the level of lead in drinking water.
- Blood Analysis for criminal investigations
